In addition to the fintech-focused symposium, 2015 saw a special evening panel on April 9, 2015, dedicated to women’s perspectives in business law. Co-hosted by BBLJ, this Women in Business Law Symposium featured a panel of top women attorneys – Linda J. Brewer (Quinn Emanuel), Sonal Mehta (Weil Gotshal), Laura Oswell (Sullivan & Cromwell), Sally Wagner (Sidley Austin), Shannon Yavorski (Kirkland & Ellis), and Rachel Proffitt (Wilson Sonsini) – who shared personal experiences and advice for succeeding in a traditionally male-dominated field. They discussed challenges such as work-life balance, mentorship, and diversity in law firm leadership. This annual panel became the seed for Berkeley Law’s Women in Business Law Initiative (WiBL) in subsequent years.
