Financial Regulatory Reform: Dodd-Frank and Beyond

The 2011 “Financial Regulatory Reform: Dodd-Frank and Beyond” symposium addressed the U.S. financial regulatory reform in the aftermath of the 2008 crisis, centering on the Dodd-Frank Act and future implications.

Dean Erwin Chemerinsky provided opening remarks, and the keynote speaker was William Haraf (member of the Financial Stability Oversight Council and former California banking commissioner). Panels of academics and industry experts examined topics including securitization & corporate governance, venture finance, and consumer protection in the new regulatory landscape. Notably, Panelists included professors (e.g. Dwight Jaffee and Nancy Wallace of UC Berkeley) and practitioners (e.g. Mary Dent of SVB Financial) discussing issues like mortgage-backed securities and consumer financial protection post-Dodd-Frank.

Proceedings were published in a special BBLJ symposium issue. This event solidified BBLJ’s practice of translating symposium discussions into published scholarship, and it garnered significant attention due to the timely topic of financial reform.
