The 2007 “New Frontiers In Law & Business” symposium explored the rapidly evolving intersection of law and business in the wake of regulatory and market changes. This was an academic conference-style symposium aimed at “pushing the conversation forward” on integration of business and legal practice.
Held at Westminster House in Berkeley, it featured multiple sessions where scholars and practitioners presented research papers. For example, Professor Jesse Fried (Berkeley Law) presented work on venture capital contract terms, with commentary by UCLA’s Antonio Bernardo. Other sessions covered topics like credit risk transfer in banking (Christine Parlour, UC Berkeley Haas, with commentary by Prof. Eric Talley), executive compensation’s effect on firm payouts (David Aboody, UCLA), and Sarbanes-Oxley (“Fixing 404”) compliance (Steven Bochner, WSGR). The day concluded with remarks by Dean Christopher Edley of Berkeley Law.
Abstracts and draft papers were made available to attendees, and the intellectual exchange laid groundwork for BBLJ’s emergence as a forum for business law scholarship.
